Frequently Asked Questions
Who is eligible for a Forward Savings Account?
Forward Savings is available to consumer accounts only. Eligible ownership types include individual, joint, trust, and UTMA (Uniform Transfers to Minors Act) accounts. A UTMA account is a custodial account established for the benefit of a minor child and managed by an adult custodian until the child reaches the age specified by law.
Business accounts, including sole proprietorships operating under a DBA and accounts owned by corporations, LLCs, partnerships, or other business entities, are not eligible.
What is a high-yield savings account?
A “high-yield” savings account typically offers an interest rate that is significantly higher than the national average for savings accounts. These higher rates can help your balance grow faster over time compared to traditional savings options.
What is APY and how is it calculated?
APY stands for Annual Percentage Yield and is a representation of how much interest you can earn over the course of a full year while including the effect of compounding, when your interest is credited to your account and begins to earn interest.
Interest in the CNB St. Louis Bank Forward Savings account accrues interest daily and compounded quarterly. Use the calculator on this page to understand your interest earnings!
What happens if my balance goes above $1,000,000?
If your balance exceeds $1,000,000, your account will continue to earn interest using a tiered rate structure. This means different portions of your balance earn different rates.
For example:
- Balances from $0.01 up to $1,000,000 earn one rate
- Any amount above $1,000,000 earns a different rate
This approach allows your entire balance to earn interest, with each tier earning the rate that applies to that portion of your balance.
Is CNB St. Louis Bank FDIC Insured?
Yes! CNB St. Louis Bank is a member of the FDIC (Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation). The amount of FDIC coverage you may be entitled to depends on the ownership category of your account.

What does "one account per primary owner" mean?
Each person may have one Forward Savings account as the primary owner (tax reporting owner). The primary owner is the individual whose Social Security number or Taxpayer Identification Number is used for tax reporting purposes.
For example:
- You may open a Forward Savings account as the primary owner under your Social Security number.
- You may also be a joint owner on your spouse's Forward Savings account if your spouse is the primary owner.
- Your spouse may have their own Forward Savings account as the primary owner.
- A child may have a Forward Savings account through a UTMA (Uniform Transfers to Minors Act) account, which is reported under the child's Social Security number and is separate from the parents' eligibility.
I already have a Regular Savings Account at CNB St. Louis Bank, should I switch to a Forward Savings Account?
It depends on what is most important to you!
- If you prefer easy access like an ATM card – Regular Savings may be a better fit
- If you have less than $1,000 to start with – you can open a Regular Savings with as little as $100
- If you value a higher interest rate over ATM access – a Forward Savings could be a good option
- If you have over $1M to save – consider combining accounts (Forward Savings, Regular Savings, Money Market Accounts, and CDs) to maximize your overall return.
